Kacey Cherry:
I’m twenty-one years old and majoring in Broadcast-journalism. Sadly, I am in my senior year and winding out my college career. However, after graduation I hope to continue working in journalism, more specifically with documentary-type work focusing on hard news related subjects.
I think underage drinking is a critical issue that is extremely prevalent but not so much ever talked reported on. My goal with our topic is to create awareness of the realities of underage drinking by getting various perspectives and first hand accounts of how people have been affected by this phenomenon. I hope it allows people to become more informed on the issue so they are aware of all the elements when making a decision to drink underage.

I am a junior, Multimedia Journalism major. My dream job would be to host a morning talk show in New York City.
To me, underage drinking will always be a problem. But, drinking is something that needs to be taught to kids by their parents. If a parent lets their child “taste test” before moving off to college I feel like the student is less likely to binge drink. I also take the stance that if at the age of 18 you can buy cigarettes, play the lottery, and have the ability to fight for our country, you deserve to be able to drink. From my experiences, students that come from other countries with lower drinking ages tend to begin binge drinking because they are not used to not being able to drink.
Mackenzie Gandy:
I am a senior at the University of Texas majoring in Journalism with a concentration in multimedia. I have worked in many different areas of journalism and public relations. My dream job would be to work as a reporter for Fox News.
To me underage drinking is inevitable. There is no escaping or controlling the situation. I believe that underage drinking is a major problem, because it is almost always swept underneath the rug where adolescents don't understand the repercussions and consequences that happen when they drink underage. I believe there should be more awareness promoted in High Schools and in communities about the ongoing problem to contain and limit the amount of accidents, injuries and tickets (MIP, MIC, and DWI) teens can receive.

I'm working towards graduation December 2012 with my Bachelor's of Journalism from the University of Texas. I have a concentration in Multimedia journalism. I have written for the Daily Texas for a year, but since Summer 2011, I have been an account executive for Texas Student Media.
I develop campaign advertisements using radio, television, online, and print.
Underage drinking has affected me personally. Recently, a friend I knew from daycare died from a drunken hit and run. Undergraduates come to college with different understandings of life, which includes being aware of your alcohol limits.
